Integrated approach: how MegaFon Tajikistan is developing its network

MegaFon Tajikistan has summarized the results of large-scale technical works carried out in the first half of 2026. The main focus was on network modernization, and a total of 80 technical measures were implemented across all regions of the country.

"The key feature of the first half of the year was integrated approach: we simultaneously expanded the radio network, strengthened the transport infrastructure, and modernized the network core. Many projects remain unnoticed by subscribers, but it is this comprehensive approach that ensures the stability of mobile communications and data transmission," comments Anatoly Izyumnikov, CEO of MegaFon Tajikistan.

In the first half of the year, the main focus was on modernizing the existing network. Instead of completely replacing equipment at many sites, their capabilities were expanded by launching additional radio frequency bands. Forty-seven base stations (BS) began operating on 4G/LTE frequencies, providing high mobile internet speeds. The largest volume of work was devoted to the LTE 2600 (Band 7) network, which is used to increase throughput in areas with high subscriber density. The next stage will be the upgrade of 150 4G base stations with 4T4R technology, which will further increase network performance and capacity.

New base stations have been commissioned in 23 settlements in Tajikistan. An additional 85 4G modules have been installed at previously launched base stations. Tests of the fifth-generation network have been completed, achieving data transfer rates of 1.1 Gbps. This confirms the operator's infrastructure is ready for the next stage of technological development.

Construction of fiber-optic communication lines (FOCL) continues. The Southern Ring Road in Khatlon Region, with a capacity of 100 Gbps, has been commissioned. Construction of the Dushanbe-Shurobod-Darvoz transport channel has been completed. These projects enhance network resilience and create the necessary capacity reserves to accommodate continued internet traffic growth. By the end of the year, 180 kilometers of new FOCL are planned for construction, 90 kilometers of which are trunk lines.

Large works has been completed in the network core. MegaFon Tajikistan has expanded the capabilities of its VoLTE platform. The number of active users of this technology, which combines high-quality audio with data transmission, has reached 394,000, and the licensed capacity has been increased to 2 million subscribers. Additionally, a number of platforms have been updated and innovative solutions have been implemented that ensure the proper operation of voice communications, data transmission, network resource management, and the interaction of all network elements.

Network development work was carried out throughout Tajikistan. Its scope was determined not by the principle of uniform distribution, but by actual needs: technical specialists considered the load level, the growth of mobile internet consumption, the number of subscribers, and the development prospects of each region. The largest volume of work was completed in Sughd Region, where 24 technical measures were implemented. In the RRS, the majority of projects were carried out in Vahdat, Tursunzade, and Rudaki. These districts are directly adjacent to Dushanbe, so increasing network capacity in the context of high population density and rapid internet traffic growth was a priority. Six projects were completed in GBAO, but each project has special significance: network construction and operation in high-mountain areas require significantly more time and resources, as well as innovative engineering solutions. Particular attention was also paid to the border districts of Khatlon Region, including Dusti, Farkhor, Hamadoni, and Shamsiddin Shohin.

The operator's large-scale infrastructure development continues. By the end of the year, the construction of over 100 new base stations, the installation of approximately 430 additional LTE modules, and other measures to improve network reliability and service quality for “MegaFon Tajikistan” are planned.
