For communication, for people, for the country

What MegaFon Tajikistan has accomplished during its quarter-century history

On September 3, one of Tajikistan's leading telecom-operators celebrates its 25th anniversary. A quarter of a century is a long time in the rapidly developing communications industry. Therefore, listing everything MegaFon Tajikistan has accomplished during this time in a single review is simply impossible. Let's focus on main resultts. But first, let's remember: in 2001, the operator literally started from scratch.

From the first BS to the huge network

The company was founded in September 2001, and the first call was made on its network on October 2. At that time, the young operator had only a few base stations installed in Dushanbe. Currently, network of “MegaFon Tajikistan” comprises approximately 1,860 base station sites. Of these, approximately 1,550, or more than 80%, support 4G/LTE technology, providing high-speed mobile internet.

A proprietary network of fiber-optic communication lines, connecting the republic's cities and regions, facilitates the transmission of enormous volumes of voice and internet traffic. Their total length is over 2,600 kilometers.

From Dushanbe to the very outskirts

MegaFon Tajikistan was the first operator to begin building a network outside major cities, including in hard-to-reach mountainous areas. It was also the first to launch 4G internet in all district centers of the Republic of Tajikistan. The operator's connection is currently available to 87.2% of the country's population. This is an outstanding result considering the difficulty of building a network in the mountains. Moreover, 85.4% of Tajikistan's residents can use high-speed 4G internet.

From GSM – to 4G networks

In 2001, telecom operators had only one digital technology available – GSM, or 2G. Basic services were limited to calls and SMS. But just four years later, MegaFon Tajikistan became the first in the CIS to launch a 3G network. In 2011, the operator began testing a 4G network – also the first in the country. This created the company's multi-layered infrastructure, ensuring high-quality service to subscribers.

Over the past 15 years alone, starting in 2012, MegaFon Tajikistan has invested USD 290.5 million in infrastructure construction.

From calls – to ecosystem of digital services

Over 25 years, mobile communications have made tremendous progress. Innovative technologies have emerged, which MegaFon Tajikistan subscribers have often been early adopters of. These include eSIM electronic cards and VoLTE technology, which combines crystal-clear voice with the ability to simultaneously use 4G mobile internet. The core and, at first, virtually exclusive service—voice calls—has been supplemented by hundreds of digital services. Unique to the country's telecom market is the MegaFon Life mobile app—the operator's own development—which allows users to manage their communications services from their smartphone, make money transfers, book flights, purchase car insurance, and handle many other everyday tasks remotely, all in one Super App.

MegaFon Tajikistan has also created unique tariff plans. For example, "Join! Create 2.0" is a tariff plan builder, allowing subscribers to create their own pricing and content for the first time. This plan has been used as a basis for prepaid plans, allowing subscribers to pay for their connection for three, six, or nine months in advance, while receiving bonuses in the form of additional internet traffic.

From the first subscriber – to еру two-million audience

The operator's mobile innovations, unique technologies, and tariffs have been highly appreciated by users. MegaFon Tajikistan currently serves over 2 million subscribers. That's nearly one in five residents of the country—an excellent result for the highly competitive Tajik telecommunications market.

From the first specialists – to the Team

At the beginning of its history, MegaFon Tajikistan had a small team—just 15 specialists, all based in Dushanbe. Some regional offices opened in subsequent years started with just two or three employees. Today, the operator's team comprises 770 highly experienced professionals, 28 of whom hold the highest title of "Master of Communications of the Republic of Tajikistan." Employees can further their skills at the MegaFon Academy or through the dedicated online platform.

The company cares not only about its own specialists but also about training personnel for the entire communications industry in Tajikistan. MegaFon Tajikistan collaborates with the country's largest universities, organizing lectures and master classes by its leading specialists. Each year, approximately 50-60 students complete internships with the company.

Over the past five years, MegaFon Tajikistan has donated more than 3.2 million somoni to social and charitable projects.

From ordinary business to social business

Since its first years, MegaFon Tajikistan has focused on charity and social projects. The company supports orphanages and boarding schools, low-income families, and cultural and educational projects.

The operator systematically supports sports, organizing children's football tournaments across the country and partnering with competitions in eSports, volleyball, paragliding, and skydiving. Therefore, for many, MegaFon Tajikistan is more than just a communications provider. It's a close neighbor and a good friend, always nearby.

MegaFon Tajikistan – 25 years of innovations and activity for the benefit of whole country!
